Financial Costs

Illinois 336 proponents consistently ignore or understate the financial costs of building this highway. The “Highway 336 Coalition” website, for example, estimates completion costs for Illinois 336 at two hundred fifty million to four hundred million dollars, with the range depending on time of completion and the effects of inflation. I.D.O.T. officials discount this low-ball estimate, agreeing with Citizens Against 336 that construction costs would probably fall between a minimum of six hundred forty million dollars and a maximum of nine hundred fifty million dollars – not including land acquisition costs, design engineering costs, and construction engineering costs!
Clearly, ONE BILLION DOLLARS should be considered the reasonable minimum cost for completion of a four-lane highway between Peoria and Macomb. This entirely realistic figure is two to four times the amount stated on the 336 Coalition website.
